Our Starling team partnered with K9s for Warriors to bring the residents of Starling at Nocatee Assisted Living and Memory Care this exciting event, “Doggie in the Window.”
On a beautiful September afternoon in Ponte Vedra, Florida, Veterans and trainers with K9s for Warriors spent quality time with our seniors, putting a smile on their faces. While they only visited through the window, it was wonderful for the dogs to spread some cheer and to continue their training in that environment.
Many of the Starling residents are Veterans themselves, and we are proud to support K9s for Warriors. September is National Suicide Prevention and Awareness month, and it is an honor for the Starling team to partner with an organization that works to reduce post-traumatic stress of those who have served and fought for our country.
“It is a great way to bring our communities together,” said Megan Kennedy, Vice President of Operations at Starling. “We are all living in unique times and our Starling team works hard to organize exciting and safe events like this for our seniors. We know a happy dog and a loving owner can bring joy to everyone around.”
The leaders with K9s for Warriors were also excited to help reduce some of the stress the pandemic has created.
“In our eyes, dogs are the universal symbol for love, and we have seen firsthand the joy our Service Dogs and Service Dogs-in-training have brought to the lives of many,” said Lindsay Grayson, the Donor Relations Manager at K9s For Warriors. “Since the residents of Starling have been quarantining for the last six-to-eight months, the opportunity to publicly and safely train our K9s while interacting with each resident through the window was very heartwarming."
