MANAGING YOUR STRESS DURING COVID-19

Many of our daily routines have changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you are a resident at one of Starling Living’s luxurious communities, or your loved one is, chances are you’ve felt some stress when it comes to COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says social distancing and staying away from family can cause increased stress and anxiety. Researchers at the CDC explain that coping with stress in a healthy way will not only make you stronger, but the people you love too.

In order to manage your stress, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends you follow these steps:

  • Know what to do if you are sick and are concerned about COVID-19.

  • Know where and how to get treatment and other support services and resources, including counseling or therapy (in person or through telehealth services).

  • Take care of your emotional health.

  • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including those on social media.

  • Take care of your body.

  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.

  • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.

  • Connect with your community - or faith-based organizations.

One of the key factors in reducing your stress, is to improve your mental health. That’s where the staff at Starling Living can help, and they really shine. The number one goal of the entire staff is to put the health and wellbeing of the residents first. Starling Living creates safe and loving communities where the families of the residents rest assured their loved ones are thriving. Their tireless work keeps the families engaged when they cannot be near their loved ones, because the staff knows staying involved is key to improving the mental health of the residents.

WHAT TO LOOKOUT FOR

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains stress during a disease outbreak may cause the following:

  • Fear and worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones, your financial situation or job, or loss of support services you rely on.

  • Changes in sleep or eating patterns.

  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating.

  • Worsening of chronic health problems.

  • Worsening of mental health conditions.

  • Increased use of tobacco, and/or alcohol and other substances.

Researchers with the CDC also suggest taking care of your loved ones relieves stress, but they say, you cannot forget to take care of yourself. At Starling Living we want to help take away the pressure of everyday life. Our residents can connect with others, enjoy wonderful amenities, and have the time to do what they love, in a safe and secure environment.
